Meet Shawn Murphy: Chief Technology OfficerÂ
In the world of software, the best technology usually feels effortless to use. However, building that seamless experience takes a tremendous amount of hard work and quiet problem-solving behind the scenes. That is why we are so pleased to welcome Shawn Murphy to MYBOS as our new Chief Technology Officer.
Working closely with our CEO, Sam Khalef, Shawn is stepping in to lead our growing team of developers. He brings a rare mix to the table, combining hands-on infrastructure experience with a deep background in software development.
The journey from coding to leadership Â
For many engineers, the goal is simply to write great code as an individual contributor. Shawn relates heavily to this, but his natural ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people meant he continually found himself moving into management.
Having that blend of skills has taken him on a unique journey. He ran a development team early in his career, traveled to San Francisco to help build a startup, served as an interim CTO, and has now found his home at MYBOS.
Throughout all of this, Shawn has relied on one guiding principle: making complex systems as straightforward as possible. Whether he is designing a user experience or explaining the feasibility of a new feature to the broader business, his goal is always to remove the friction and keep things simple.
Finding the right cultureÂ
As anyone in the SaaS industry knows, joining a new company is always a bit of a gamble when it comes to the people you will be working with. For Shawn, the decision to join MYBOS has truly paid off.
He notes that the team has been exceedingly welcoming, and he is looking forward to continuing the strong, positive culture that Sam has fostered at MYBOS. More than anything, Shawn is excited to work on a product that solves real problems for its users in a modern way, particularly as we continue to expand the functionality of our mobile applications.
Life away from the keyboard
When he is not focused on system architecture, Shawn is dedicated to keeping his mind active. He is an avid reader of fiction, enjoys video games, and spends time watching YouTube channels dedicated to DIY, woodworking, fabrication, cooking, science, and technology. He also runs tabletop role-playing games, where he and his friends write shared narratives together.
Fun fact, Shawn actually has a very active athletic background. He played soccer for ten years, indoor soccer for two years, and baseball for three years, while also enjoying table tennis and badminton with friends.
However, despite loving to play sports, he finds watching them to be incredibly boring. He specifically remembers his colleagues taking him to a live baseball game in San Francisco, which he affectionately describes as the most boring thing in the city.
We are glad to have Shawn on board, and we are looking forward to the calm, clear leadership he brings to our engineering team.
